ABOUT EITO TAMURA

Eito is an impressive young man, born and raised in Japan, educated in Napier and Wellington and now a permanent resident of New Zealand.

Eito grew up playing rugby in Kyoto, Japan under the influence of his Father. The name “Eito” come from “Number 8”, which is pronounced “Number Eito” in Japanese, the position that his father played.

In 1998, Eito got the opportunity to come to New Zealand to study and to play rugby.  He attended Napier Boys’ High School, making the First XV in 2001 when they came 2nd in the Adidas Knockout National Tournament.

In 2002, Eito moved to Wellington to study at Massey University and along with several Napier Boys First XV players, he joined up with the Colts team at Poneke Football Club, coached by Richard Watt. Eito went on to be a popular and valued member of the Premier team and played eleven seasons at Poneke and also played for Wellington B Representative team before he got an offer from a Japanese Top League Rugby Team; Munakata Sanix Blues, in Fukuoka. Since moving back to Japan, Eito switched positions; from Center to open-side flanker and he Captained Manakata Sanix Blues for three seasons. He has played with a number of world class players, including Brad Thorn and Jacques Potgeiter.

Eito retired from Professional Rugby at the age of 35 and he is now living with his partner, Ashleigh, back in Wellington which he considers “home”. He is still involved at Poneke in a Coaching support role and he is putting his Degree in Engineering Technology to good use as a Cyber Security Consultant.
